Another Earth, a startup founded by Maya Pindeus and Felix Geremus and now based in Vienna, has closed a €3.5 million funding round to move from research and development into commercial scale-up. The company said the fresh capital will support international expansion of its platform for synthetic earth observation data.
The round brings in Irish venture capital firm Wake-Up Capital as a new investor. Existing backers Rockstart, Inovexus and Stamco AG also participated. The company also cited support from Austria Wirtschaftsservice, the Austrian Research Promotion Agency and the European Space Agency, though it did not disclose how the total amount breaks down between private investment and public funding.
Another Earth develops synthetic satellite imagery and geospatial data using generative AI and 3D modeling. The goal is to address a shortage of high-resolution earth observation data, which is often expensive, difficult to access and labor-intensive to label for machine learning use.
By producing synthetic datasets that are already segmented, the startup aims to make it easier and cheaper to train AI models for environmental monitoring and infrastructure analysis. Earlier this year, the company also secured access to the EuroHPC supercomputing network, which provided computing power for training its models.
The platform is targeted at sectors including mining, infrastructure planning, insurance and environmental protection. Another Earth is already rolling out internationally, including work in sub-Saharan Africa with GeoTerra Image to monitor the environmental impact of mining and industrial sites, and in Brazil with NovaTerra on deforestation tracking, agricultural analysis and climate risk assessment.
