Aldi Süd is expanding its existing delivery service pilot project in the cities of Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Mülheim an der Ruhr. Until now, fresh food has only been delivered to the company's own employees around its headquarters. Starting this Tuesday, the delivery service will also deliver to external customers under the name “Mein Aldi,” as the company announced to Handelsblatt.

Interestingly, deliveries will not come directly from Aldi stores. Instead, products will be shipped from a special, smaller warehouse known as a dark store. This approach could help optimize the delivery process and increase efficiency. Deliveries will be made in an environmentally friendly manner using electric vehicles. Customers will be able to choose from a range of around 1,300 products via the website or a special app.

Initial tests, which were conducted exclusively with employees, showed promising results. This has prompted Aldi Süd's management to take the next big step and extend the service to external customers. It remains to be seen how this expanded service will be received by customers and what impact it will have on the food retail market.
